Wear dance shoes or start barefoot. We're happy to answer questions about footwear.
Performance is optional.
We honor all bodies and identities, but we do not tolerate speech or actions that are hateful or demeaning to anyone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find beginner Burlesque classes in Portland, OR?
BodyMagick Temple offers beginner burlesque classes in Portland, Oregon, including Teasettes group classes, drop-in Burlesque skills classes, and our signature BodyMagick Burlesque 101 series to create your first solo act. In-person classes are held at our private Portland studio. No prior dance experience is required to join.
What should I wear to a Portland Burlesque class?
Wear comfortable, unrestricted clothing that allows you to move freely, and allows our instructors to see your body position so we can be sure you're safe. Corsets are fun, and they restrict movement. If you plan to perform in heels, ballroom dance or character shoes made specifically for dancing. Re heel height: get them high enough to feel saucy, and low enough to ensure safety. If you're newer to heels, lower and wider is more stable, especially when moving across the floor and turning.
Do BodyMagick Temple Burlesque classes include a live performance?
It depends on the class. Teasettes group classes, Burlesque 101 and Workshop & Wow 'Em are designed to end in a live performance in Portland. We can support online students in applying for shows in their local area. Some classes are just for building skills such as Fan and Chair Dancing, or improving performance quality. Each offering will clearly list if there's a performance opportunity.
Is BodyMagick Temple LGBTQ+ friendly and body-positive?
Absolutely. BodyMagick Temple is a body-positive, inclusive dance community welcoming all bodies, experience levels, and gender identities. Our classes celebrate bold women, fab femmes, creative weirdos and sassy witches of every background. Our instructors and community leaders hold a variety of identities.
What is a Teasettes Group Act?
Teasettes are group choreography burlesque acts at BodyMagick Temple. They are perfect if you like to learn burlesque in a group setting and have a performance troupe. Many performers start here because it's assuring to share the stage with other dancers, but it does take practice to stay in-synch with the group. These quarterly classes sell out quickly, so joining the waitlist is recommended.
Can I book a private Burlesque lesson, group class or party in Portland?
Yes! BodyMagick Temple offers private lessons to explore the basics or advance your skills, and private group classes for Bach parties, birthdays, or special celebrations in Portland, Oregon.
