In-Person Burlesque 101

BodyMagick Temple is where we ditch the shame, own our shine, and turn every move into a celebration of self-love.
We invite all levels, all bodies, all genders to join us in building community as a you create your first fabulous Burlesque act, and shine on stage in front of a supportive audience at the gorgeous Mission Theater, Portland, OR.

In person Intitiations are offered about twice a year in Portland, OR. We work through the modules as a group, with the series culminating in a fabulous performance of love and sparkles.
This is a hybrid-style course with teaching materials online accessible immediately following registration, so you can start working with them right away. In-person sessions focus on movement instruction and Q&A for building and polishing a stunning act to perform in a BodyMagick Temple Showcase, and submit to other productions.
This is the most complete Burlesque 101 we've seen anywhere. We cover all the elements to help you create a performance you'll be proud of, personal support to help you get there and you'll end with everything you need to have an incredible keepsake for yourself or submit to other productions, including posed and stage photos and act video.
In person, attendees must be fully vaccinated for COVID. All of our teachers are fully vaccinated. We appreciate you understanding that some of us have health conditions that make us more vulnerable, and work for ourselves so don't have sick leave. If the public health situation requires it, meetings will move online.
As with the online Initiation, you have access to the online classroom as long as you keep our agreements of privacy and respect for all, so you can access it when building future acts.

Our schedule includes Work Weeks when we don't meet as a group, so that you have time to put what you learn into action, and for your private sessions with our High Priestesses. -
BodyMagick Temple Showcase Paid Show
Showcases are share of the door, where all performers receive a portion of show profits. Travel and accommodation for Portland are not included.

In Person Initiation Timing:
You will receive access to the online classroom upon registration so that you may begin preparing. In addition to the main topic listed for each meeting, we will have movement training and answer your act and Burlesque questions.

Performing
When you complete the Initiation you're eligible to perform in a BodyMagick Temple Showcase in Portland, OR.
Our Showcases are paid performances, which isn't something we experienced when we started and still isn't common for student debuts. All performers receive a share of the door and include stage video and professional photos.
If you cannot come to Portland, we will help you apply to your local shows. We can't speak for other producers on bookings, but we'll guide you through the submission process and tell them why we recommend you.

High Priestess of Tease and International Burlesque Performer Eva D’Luscious covers act development, including storytelling through dance, principles of musicality, choreography and stage presence, how to break down music and her 3Ps of Striptease.

Hailing from the sexy side of the moon, Luna Phaze mystifies audiences wherever she goes. Luna has always had a passion for self-improvement and building confidence from within. She loves to help women tap into their inner confidence, overcome self-doubt and find their personal brand of shine.
Vanity Thorn
High Priestess of Glam
As the High Priestess of Glam for Showgirl Temple, Vanity Thorn brings 10+ years of work in the beauty and fashion industry to create workshops accessible to all levels of learners. Her focus is the demystification of high glamour, so that all students may adopt the knowledge of their innate sexuality.
FAQ
Do I need dance or performance experience to take this series?
Not at all! This is perfect for people brand new to the stage. We will help you craft an act you're proud of and grow your movement skills, but not even all experienced Burleskers are dancers.
If I'm doing the online series, how do I meet with you?
We meet via Zoom, or another online meeting site if Zoom doesn't work for you. Eva has been holding online classes even before The Pause and has students in Alaska, Southern California and Canada. We do hope someday we'll meet in person though!
Do you offer trades or special pricing?
Trades aren't available at this time, but we are building a scholarship fund to assist marginalized groups, including single parents. Please contact us if you're interested in this.
Do I need an act idea to join the series?
Nope! We'll help you there too, but a great start for inspiration is to attend online and local Burlesque shows, and watch videos.
